Coping with an ‘Infertile’ diagnosis

Have you been told you are infertile? Many of the patients we see at the Institute for Human Reproduction (IHR) come to us after being told they are infertile and frankly we aren't exactly sure what a diagnosis of "infertile" means.

The problem with any label of “Infertility” is that it's too vague. Being infertile is the result of other, more definitive medical conditions, which in our opinion a good infertility physician should be able to identify. Until the underlying causes of an infertile condition have been identified, you don't really know what's wrong and you have little chance to apply an appropriate treatment.

At IHR, we strive to determine the source of an infertile condition by engaging in a careful examination and testing of the patient, and by a thorough study of her or his medical records. In our experience this kind of rigorous methodology is the only way to determine the actual cause of the underlying infertility problem.

The Institute for Human Reproduction has accumulated a significant record of accomplishment by helping our patients cope with a variety of infertility conditions. IHR offers all established reproductive technology and infertility treatments, and we embrace new procedures and innovations as soon as they are demonstrated to be safe and effective.

IHR’s infertility programs treat both female infertility and male infertility issues. Causes of infertility can be related to both sexes. Approximately 60 percent of infertility is caused by female conditions, while approximately 40 percent is male-related. And in 25 percent of couples, both partners will have a fertility problem.

IHR has treatments for a variety of conditions, including ovulatory dysfunctions, endometriosis, immunological infertility, and many others.
